Stephen Neel assumed the role of Fire Chief on June 11, 2019, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving the community. A Las Vegas native, Chief Neel's journey in public service began at a remarkably young age when he embarked on entrepreneurship, owning two businesses.
Chief Neel's extensive career path took him through various vital roles, contributing to the well-being of the community:
- Paramedic Expertise: Prior to joining the Moapa Valley Fire District, Chief Neel worked for American Medical Response, where he served as a Paramedic for an impressive 13 years. This hands-on experience in emergency medical care laid a solid foundation for his career in fire services.
- Government Service: Chief Neel's dedication led him to serve at Nellis Air Force Base and Lake Mead National Recreational Area. Here, he played an instrumental role in initiating their Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service, expanding emergency medical care access.
- Leadership and Education: Within Lake Mead National Recreational Area, Chief Neel excelled as a Captain and a fire instructor, making significant contributions to the development of their EMS and Fire program. His leadership and educational efforts were pivotal in building a robust and effective emergency response system.
- Diverse Fire Service Experience: Chief Neel's passion for firefighting and emergency response was evident in his role as a Reserve Firefighter/Paramedic at Mesquite Fire and Rescue. Over the years, he progressed through various ranks, including Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain/Paramedic, Station Chief, and acting Fire Chief within the Moapa Valley Fire District since 2002.
- Educational Achievements: Chief Neel holds an Associate Degree in Fire Science, with a specialization in Urban Firefighting, from the College of Southern Nevada. He also successfully completed the Brigham Young University-Idaho Paramedic Program in 2005, further enhancing his knowledge and skills.
Chief Neel, alongside his wife, Alecia, made Moapa Valley their home in 2002, and together, they have raised four children in this close-knit community.
One of Chief Neel's most remarkable contributions was his pivotal role in establishing the foundation for the Moapa Valley Fire District. He played a key part in guiding the district through its separation from the Clark County Fire Department, ensuring the successful transition and continuity of essential services.
